Get your boots back out on the pitch!

‘Football, Rebooted’ is a national environmental campaign that has been created to save at least one million pairs of football boots from landfill, by getting them onto the feet of players right across the UK.

In safe hands.

The innovative campaign has been co-created by former international football star David James MBE, grassroots football communities, and Utilita Energy - the UK’s only energy company created to help households use less energy, to save the planet - and our pockets.

Environmental damage. Every pair of boots counts.

Every time a pair of football boots or trainers is made, around 30 lbs of carbon is generated, having a detrimental impact on the environment.

Football, Rebooted aims to rehome one million pairs of ‘pre-played’ football boots and AstroTurf trainers, saving families a fortune, as well as 136,000 tonnes of carbon – the same as taking 7,000 cars off the road for a year or turning the energy off in one million medium-sized houses for a week.*

How it works

DONATE BOOTS

Anyone with a spare pair of football boots (or astro turf boots) can request an environmentally-friendly ‘boot bag’ and send them to us for FREE. Each bag will comfortably fit 2 adult pairs or 3 smaller pairs of boots.

Alternatively, you can drop off your spare boots at one of our Utilita Energy Hubs or a listed Football Rebooted collection point – find your nearest one here.

CLAIM BOOTS

We are prioritising boot requests from schools, clubs and charitable organisations to find good homes for the boots we collect.

We want everyone to be able to access a free pair of quality boots so we are growing the network of Football Rebooted collection & reallocation points across the UK and you can find your nearest one here.

We will run a number of regional ‘boot claim’ events where anyone would be able to attend and claim a FREE pair of quality pre-played boots on the day. Follow @UtilitaFootball for details on these.

Why is Utilita Energy behind this campaign?

Utilita powers British football at all levels, from grassroots through to the premiership. In 2020 Utilita launched Switch Before Pitch, an energy-saving education campaign designed to help clubs and families reduce their energy wastage. Since then Utilita has been the mouthpiece of 40,000 grassroots football clubs in the UK, publishing two reports on the hardship they have faced as a result of the pandemic.

Recognised for its positive impact on UK football, Utilita was invited by the House of Lords to submit evidence to help shape the next National Plan for Sport and Recreation, which was published in December 2021 – available here.

Our latest report, published in May 2022 looks at the further impact the cost of living crisis is having on grassroots football - read it here.

*30 lbs of carbon per pair of running shoes x 1 million pairs of boots rehomed / 2,200 lbs (in a tonne) = 13,636 tonnes of carbon saved (6,852 cars of the road for a year based on 1.99 tonnes per car).

With every 1000 pairs rehomed, we’ll save 13.6 tonnes of carbon – that’s the same as taking seven cars off the road for a year, in terms of equivalent

2900 KWh of energy used each year (medium sized house) = 7.94 KWh per day usage

0.23314 is the amount of carbon emissions generated by one KWh of energy. Per day, (7.94 x 0.23314) a medium-sized home generates 1.85kg of carbon emissions. 1.85kg is equivalent to 4.078 lbs. 30lbs (generated by manufacturing new boots) is equivalent to 13.6kg / 1.85 = 7.35 (days) a week’s worth of energy.
